Chicago O'Hare International Airport is one of the world's busiest airports. The CTA Blue Line offers a direct, affordable connection to downtown Chicago — here is everything you need to know.

CTA Blue Line (Recommended)

The CTA Blue Line is the most convenient and affordable way to travel between O'Hare and downtown Chicago. The train runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and takes approximately 45 minutes to reach the Loop (downtown). The station is located inside the airport, accessible from Terminal 2. Fares are approximately $5 from O'Hare (a premium fare applies from this station).

Taxi

Taxis are available from the designated taxi stands outside each terminal. The journey to downtown Chicago takes approximately 30–60 minutes depending on traffic and costs approximately $40–55 plus tip.

Rideshare (Uber, Lyft)

Rideshare services are available from the designated pickup areas. Prices vary by demand. The journey to downtown Chicago takes approximately 30–60 minutes depending on traffic.

Shared Shuttle

Shared shuttle services offer door-to-door service to hotels and residences throughout the Chicago area. Pre-booking is recommended.

Rental Car

Rental car companies operate from the Rental Car Facility, accessible via the Airport Transit System (ATS) from all terminals.

Key Tips

  • The CTA Blue Line is the best option for most travelers — it is fast, affordable, and runs 24/7.

  • Allow at least 90 minutes from downtown Chicago to O'Hare for international departures, including security.

  • Traffic on the I-90/94 expressway can be very heavy during rush hours — the Blue Line is more reliable than taxis or rideshare during peak times.
