LAX Automated People Mover (APM)
The LAX Automated People Mover connects all terminals to the Metro K Line (Crenshaw) and C Line (Green) at the Aviation/LAX station. From there, you can connect to the Metro A Line (Blue) to reach downtown Los Angeles. The APM also connects to the Consolidated Rent-A-Car (ConRAC) facility. The APM is free to use.
Metro Rail
The Metro K Line (Crenshaw) connects LAX to the Expo/Crenshaw station, where you can transfer to the Metro E Line (Expo) for Santa Monica, or continue to the Metro A Line (Blue) for downtown Los Angeles. The Metro C Line (Green) connects to the South Bay. Metro fares are approximately $1.75 per ride.
FlyAway Bus
LAX FlyAway buses offer direct service to Union Station (downtown Los Angeles), Van Nuys, Hollywood, and Westwood/UCLA. The Union Station service runs 24 hours and takes approximately 30–45 minutes. Fares are approximately $9.75 one-way. Pre-booking is recommended.
Rideshare (Uber, Lyft)
Rideshare services are available from the designated LAX-it rideshare pickup lot, accessible via free shuttle from the terminals. Prices vary by demand and time of day. The journey to downtown Los Angeles takes approximately 30–60 minutes depending on traffic.
Taxi
Taxis are available from the designated taxi zones outside each terminal. Fares to downtown Los Angeles are metered and typically range from $40–60 plus tip, depending on traffic. Taxis are regulated by the Los Angeles Department of Transportation.
Rental Car
All rental car companies operate from the Consolidated Rent-A-Car (ConRAC) facility, accessible via the LAX Automated People Mover. A car is recommended for exploring Los Angeles, as public transit coverage is limited outside the main corridors.
Key Tips
Traffic around LAX is notoriously heavy, especially during rush hours (7–10am and 4–8pm). Allow extra time.
The LAX-it rideshare lot requires a free shuttle from the terminals — do not attempt to be picked up at the terminal curb.
The FlyAway bus to Union Station is the most affordable option for travelers heading to downtown Los Angeles.
Consider flying into Burbank (BUR) or Long Beach (LGB) if your destination is in the San Fernando Valley or Orange County — these airports are less congested.
